The Create QRcode handbook

Good things start
with a little know-how.

Practical guides to creating, sharing, and understanding your QR codes. Everything you need, one step at a time.

8 guides · From first code to confident campaign

Getting started

Create your first QR code

From a destination link to a code you can share.

  1. 1Create an account and verify your email if prompted. Sign in and open QR codes from your workspace.
  2. 2Choose New QR Code, select Website, WhatsApp, WiFi, PDF, or Google Review, and complete the type-specific fields.
  3. 3Create the code, open its details, and download the PNG. Scan it with your phone before sharing.

Website, WhatsApp, PDF, and Google Review codes are dynamic and trackable. Native WiFi codes join a network directly, so they are static and do not provide analytics, editing, or pausing.

Managing codes

Update a destination

Keep your printed code relevant when your content changes.

  1. 1Open QR codes and select the code you want to edit.
  2. 2Update its destination URL and save. You can also rename the code to make it easier to find.
  3. 3Scan the original QR image again to check the new destination. You do not need to reprint a dynamic code.

Destinations must be public HTTP or HTTPS URLs. A PDF must already be hosted online. A WiFi preset links to an instruction page; it does not encode WiFi credentials.

Design & sharing

Customize your QR code

A clear, recognizable code starts with good contrast.

  1. 1Pro and Business plans unlock custom foreground and background colors.
  2. 2Choose a dark foreground with a light background and keep the clear margin around the pattern.
  3. 3Open a QR code from the dashboard to update its colors, output size, margin, or error correction with a live preview.
  4. 4Check the finished image on several devices and against the background where you plan to use it.

A preview is for checking appearance. Use the saved code’s download for your campaign so scans go through your dynamic link.

Design & sharing

Download, print, and test

Make the jump from screen to print with confidence.

  1. 1Download your saved QR code as a PNG from its card or detail page.
  2. 2Keep its square aspect ratio. Avoid cropping the clear border, stretching the image, or placing text over it.
  3. 3Test at the actual printed size, distance, lighting, and surface you expect people to use. Add a short label such as “Scan to view our menu.”

Dynamic links need an internet connection and an available destination. Keep your account and destination website accessible.

Insights

Understand scan analytics

Turn scan activity into useful campaign feedback.

  1. 1The overview shows your QR count and this month’s scans. Open an individual code to explore its activity.
  2. 2Paid plans unlock detailed trends and location, device, and browser breakdowns. Choose an available date range to compare activity.
  3. 3Business users can export CSV scan reports from the analytics detail page. Handle exported data carefully.

Locations are approximate and IP-derived. Shared networks, VPNs, and automated traffic can affect counts. Analytics do not tell you the names of the people scanning.

Your account

Plans, payments, and renewal

Choose the capacity that fits your campaigns.

  1. 1Free: 1 QR code, 100 scans per month, and basic analytics. Pro: 5 codes, 5,000 scans per month, full analytics, and custom colors. Business: unlimited codes and scans, plus CSV export.
  2. 2Choose a paid plan on Pricing and complete Razorpay checkout. Pro and Business each cost ₹499 for 30 days of access, paid once with no automatic renewal.
  3. 3Check your current plan and expiry in Settings. Checkout is a one-time payment that provides 30 days and requires manual renewal. Read the billing terms shown in checkout before paying.

If you paid but your plan did not update, contact support with the payment reference. Do not share card details, passwords, or one-time passwords.

Troubleshooting

When something needs a second look

A few quick checks solve most scanning problems.

  1. 1If a code will not scan, try better lighting, a larger print, stronger contrast, and a different camera. Make sure the image is not cropped or blurred.
  2. 2If the destination will not open, check the original URL in your browser, your internet connection, and whether the code is active.
  3. 3If data is missing, refresh the page and check your plan and date range. Contact support with the QR name or ID if the issue continues.

Deleting a QR code is permanent and breaks the associated dynamic link. Deactivate it instead when you only need to pause access.

Your account

Your account and your data

Keep your workspace secure and understand what is stored.

  1. 1Sign in with the code sent to your verified email. Never share that code, and sign out on shared devices. You can update your profile through your BuildNerd account.
  2. 2QR images and destinations are intended to be shared publicly. Do not put private credentials or confidential content into a public code.
  3. 3Read the Privacy Policy for information about scan IP addresses, device signals, essential cookies, and saved drafts. Contact support for access, correction, or deletion requests.
